Capital Dock is a city centre location bounded on three sides by canal and riverside promenades. Extending to 4.8 acres and incorporating a creatively landscaped square and recreational parkland.
A landmark building forms the centre piece of the development extending to over 23 floors above ground. A double basement with over 390 car parking spaces extends to the full footprint of the site below the buildings.
The mixed use development comprises three commercial buildings with over 30,000m² of floor space, three residential buildings with 190 apartments and a retail building.
The culture of collaboration and co-operation created
from the outset was pivotal in getting the job handed over with success. The last five percent of any project can be the most challenging.
Our team’s ability to assess what was important and to target and complete those activities ensured that, even though we were exceptionally busy, we were methodical and rational in our approach.
Sisk engaged motivational speaker, Stuart Lancaster (ex England Rugby Coach and current Leinster Rugby Coach), six months prior to practical completion. He spoke to the entire team including the supply chain on how to focus on leadership, managing high performance teams, building team work in difficult situations, overcoming challenges and achieving goals.
Due to the scale of the development, there was an impact to the general public and surrounding businesses. We had a dedicated public liaison manager who was primarily responsible for all communications with external stakeholders.
We worked closely with neighbouring businesses
to ensure minimal disruption and notified them when
works were taking place that may affect them. We maintained a good relationship with Dublin City Council and ensured we adhered to restrictions and permit requirements.
Sisk engaged 15+ workers through the South Inner City Employment Scheme, providing people with the opportunity to come back into the employment market with new skills and confidence.
The Sisk team regularly provided assistance to the local rowing club at Charlotte Quay Dock. Our team provided a teleporter and driver to move their boats from storage sheds to starting points of regatta competitions.
We closely monitored our environmental impact and implemented in-house audits to ensure all regulations were adhered to. We had an onsite Sustainability Champion and used smart waste to manage and measure this throughout the project.
Sustainable products were specified and used throughout, as was local sourcing of materials and labour to try and cut down on our carbon footprint. Our online delivery management system and induction process also tracked this in so far as delivery mileage trackers and methods of transport and distance covered for workers on site.
We are members of the considerate contractor’s
scheme where we received an overall score of 41
which is excellent.
