Frequently asked questions
What is the start date?
Each year our graduate intake starts with an induction week held in the first week of September.
What is the salary? Will I remain a Graduate for the duration of the Excelerate Programme?
We benchmark our salaries regularly across the sector and as a result offer a competitive salary.
Over the four years of the programme as your role and responsibilities change, your salary and job title will change accordingly.
Where do the assessment centres take place?
Assessment centres take place at our offices in St Albans, Hertfordshire and Dublin.
What preparation can I do for the assessment centre?
The best preparation you can do is to familiarise yourself with the company and our vision. Our website is a good source of information.
There are a number of activities at our assessment centres. You will receive instructions as to the content of the day and any preparation that you need to complete prior to attending such as completing on-line assessments for example. Please ensure that you read the instructions carefully and contact us if you have any questions - firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many of the activities at the assessment centre will be explained to you on the day therefore you cannot prepare directly for them. However, by ensuring you are as prepared as possible before-hand, such as planning your route and arriving in good time, you will give yourself a better chance of remaining calm and performing to the best of your ability.
Will I get chartered within the 4 years of the programme?
This will depend on the professional institute that you choose to follow on your route to chartership and your academic qualifications.
We are confident that if you are following the CIOB, RICS or SCSI route, you will be able to achieve chartership within the 4 years of the programme. Dependent on your academic qualification, we anticipate that those following the ICE or Engineers Ireland pathway to chartership will take the full 4 years or complete the process shortly following the completion of the programme.
Do you have to be a recent graduate to apply to the Excelerate programme? Do you have an age limit?
No. We welcome applications from graduates from any of our selected disciplines and are not prescriptive in relation to either when you graduated or your age.
Do I need a specific degree to apply for the programme?
To apply for this programme you will have already achieved or are soon to graduate with a good degree (minimum 2:2) in either a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Services or Commercial / Quantity Surveying discipline.
How many graduates do you plan to recruit this year?
Each year we recruit typically 10-20 graduates across the Building Services, Engineering / Construction Management and Quantity Surveying disciplines.
How many hours will I work a week?
You are contracted to work 40 hours a week. At peak times, as is common in the Construction Industry when working towards tight deadlines and demanding programmes, you may exceed these hours.
I've applied, how long unit I hear from you?
We aim to respond to all applicants quickly at each stage of the process.
Are my travel expenses covered for the assessment centre?
When you attend an assessment centre bring along any receipts detailing your travel costs and you will be reimbursed by cheque shortly following the event.
What should I wear to the assessment centre?
You should wear formal business wear when attending the assessment centre. This is how the Assessor team will be dressed.
On your website you confirm that an applicant must be 'geographically mobile'. What does this mean?
We are looking for our graduates to be fully mobile across our business - England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales (and even into Europe on occasions). You will complete placements across our Business Units and therefore you need to be prepared to be flexible across these areas completing a number of 6 to 9 month placements over the 4 year programme.
