John Sisk & Son was chosen by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to build a new cattery for its London location, which was opened by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall amid celebrations to mark the 150 year anniversary of this famous charity.
The project involved the construction of a new, highly sustainable, four storey building featuring reception and waiting areas, meeting rooms and cat pens with preparation areas and staff rooms.
The building is curtain-walled, with windows specifically sized and located for the cats, making the most of natural light and providing a pleasant environment for its feline residents as they await new owners.
Sustainability credentials are incorporated into the heart of the building, making use of a number of new renewable energy technologies and significantly reducing its carbon footprint. Solar thermal and photovoltaic panels provide hot water and up to 11,000kWh of electricity, whilst a ground source borehole array provides heat in the winter and cooling in the summer.
