This award winning ten storey design and build project comprised Phase 1 of a major mixed use development of high quality office accommodation, residential apartments, restaurants and café bars in Coventry.
John Sisk & Son’s skills in delivering complex schemes were essential here. The scheme is located on a very tight site between Coventry Rugby Club and existing College buildings, and is bounded by a main trunk road into the town centre.
The first six storeys of the building house 8,278 ft2 of retail at ground floor and a 484 space multi storey car park above. The four storeys above provide 66,000 sq ft office accommodation finished to Category A standard for occupation by the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA). The apartment block has 30 two bedroom and 11 one bedroom properties, built for Mercian Housing. Its proximity to the shopping centre and train station, just one hour from London, makes it an easily accessible and pleasant environment to live and work in.
The scheme’s exemplar environmental performance has resulted in a Green Apple award and a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. Some of the sustainable solutions included the installation of ground source heat recovery pumps to a depth of 200m and natural night time ventilation to aid the cooling and heating of the QCDA building. Timber frame construction was used on the residential block, utilising sustainably sourced materials. The building also received a ‘Built in Quality’ Award.
I...would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the completion of the QCDA building in particular to such a high quality standard. The tours we have recently organised have been a great success and the industry in general seems... extremely impressed.Jennifer Price, MCD (Coventry) Ltd
