Crossrail is Europe’s largest infrastructure project and will boost London’s rail capacity by ten per cent. Its largest tunnelling scheme was awarded to the joint venture company formed between John Sisk & Son and Dragados. This partnership combined the expertise of the two companies to deliver design and programme benefits for the client and travelling public.
Known as “C305”, this contract required the construction of the Eastern Running Tunnels from Limmo Peninsula to Farringdon, Limmo Peninsula to Victoria Dock and Stepney Green to Pudding Mill Lane. The project delivered 11.9km of twin bore tunnels.
The contract included bored tunnels, sprayed concrete lined (SCL) tunnels, diaphragm wall shafts, segment manufacturing facility, spoil handling conveyor systems and a 200m long berth & ship loading facility for spoil removal by marine transportation.
The project was successfully deliver in December 2016.
