Project: Whitelee Windfarm, 75 wind turbine extension to the existing Whitelee Wind Farm, incorporating forestry clearance and associated electrical and turbine access works. The work includes the construction of access roads, substation and control buildings, and the wind turbine generator bases, which will be fitted with turbines by a specialist subcontractor. Whitelee, in East Renfrewshire, is already Europe’s largest onshore wind farm this extension adds more than 200MW to existing supply.
Water management - A five stage plan was developed to ensure all water was returned to the natural environment in a controlled manner to prevent negative impact. These included mini filtration systems to ensure silt contamination did not become a problem. Stage 1: All water goes through clean stone drains into first settlement lagoon where solids settle out. Stage 2: Water is pumped to second settlement lagoon where solids settle out and it is filtered at discharge through silt fences. Stage 3: Water is diverted to third settlement lagoon for further settlement. Stage 4: Water is directed through more silt fences and across natural vegetation. Stage 5: Water enters actual Buren.
