The Civic Museum Galway
Client : Office of Public Works
Value : €8m
Located at the Spanish Arch, one of Galway City’s historic landmarks, the new Civic Museum complements and interacts sensitively with the original site, the old stone walling and the adjacent river.
Constructed by Sisk to exceptionally high standards, the museum fulfils a strong civic role and is mindful of Galway’s rich history.
A light-filled atrium extends the full height of the building, which on three internal levels houses reception, foyer, performance space, library, café, shop and public amenities. The exhibition spaces are located on the first and second levels. An external public access courtyard forms part of the development.
Sisk worked closely with neighbouring businesses and property owners to ensure minimal disruption throughout the construction phase.
Sensitive historic landmark building.
