John Sisk & Son was entrusted with the creation of a new automated storage and retrieval system for Coca Cola Enterprises Ltd.
The design and build works consisted of the construction of a high tolerance concrete slab founded on CFA piles on which a Sisk’s specialist contractor partner constructed a 33m high racking system. The external cladding was fixed directly to this system.
A three storey office area, fork lift truck transit area and a new seven bay despatch canopy complete with extensive external works were constructed around 3 sides of the warehouse.
Sisk’s expertise generated an innovative phased build design which enabled all works to be completed without disruption to the 24/7 operations in the existing manufacturing and distribution plant. Extensive out of hours working and temporary facilities were provided to accommodate this.
The completed facility provided Coca Cola with fully automated distribution and storage facilities for up to 23,200 pallets (in excess of 16 million bottles) of their products at any one time.
John Sisk & Son demonstrated a complete willingness to join Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd as “one team” on this project.
As one team, CCE Ltd and JSSL overcame many obstacles and challenges by working together and employing innovative solutions and determined resilience. The project was completed to time, to cost, SAFELY, and hit all of the agreed performance criteria demanded within the contract.
Did the Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd Great Britain project team enjoy working with the John Sisk & Son staff? The answer to this question lies in the fact that on many occasions the “joins” separating the two companies were indistinguishable. Yes, it was hard work, but it was carried out in an environment of friendship, professionalism, and therefore enjoyable. All in all, a major part of “delivery of the project, on time and in full” success of this project was achieved by JSSL working alongside the CCE ltd project team members.Fred Mead - Programme Manager, Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd
