John Sisk & Son successfully completed the refurbishment of the four star Crowne Plaza Hotel in the heart of Birmingham for Centre Island Limited.
Our flexibility and awareness of client and guest needs meant that the hotel remained operational throughout the 55 week project period. This was achieved by a programme that included 13 sectional handovers, with one completed floor returned to the hotel every month and works limited to a maximum of four floors at any one time.
In additional to the bedroom refurbishments, the project also included the full fit out of a new restaurant, bar, kitchens and reception on the ground floor, with new conference facilities on the 1st floor level. New staff office space was also provided on the mezzanine level.
Extensive works were necessary to integrate new mechanical and electrical services with the existing equipment which was maintained during the works. These works included an extension to the existing roof plant room and further new plant rooms at mezzanine levels. Switching to the new services was carried out at times agreed with the hotel.
Externally the building’s facade received a mixture of new render and flat panel aluminium and GRP cladding in addition to the new feature entrance.
Whilst the contract was let on a Traditional Full Client Design John Sisk still took a very positive approach to value engineering and design solutions to not only speed up the programme but also add value to the job. I suppose the testament to any contractor is whether the client would use them again – we are now in negotiations with them on two separate hotel projects after a very successful initial project.Mark Foster, Operations Director, Centre Island Hotels
